Tegan rescues the Doctor & Norna by smashing her light. Norna is returned to her father who then goes back for the Doctor. Range, Norna & Turlough return to the surface where Brazen arrests them over Range's keeping files on "deaths unaccountable" but becomes more conciliatory when Turlough explains that the Tractators may be keeping the missing Plantagernet alive under the surface. The Doctor & Tegan witness a Tractator using it's powers to drag someone down through the surface. They are trapped between the Tractators and their burrowing machine and herded into the main cavern used by the Tractators where Plantagernet is being held. The burrowing machine enters the room revealing that it's operator is the thought dead Captain Revere
Lots of running round in tunnels and very little explanation. What are the Tractators up to? What is the weird attractive power they appear to be using? Not wonderfully satisfactory.....
The Deputy that appears in this episode putting Range on trial is played by Alison Skilbeck who you may have seen as Helen of Tadcaster in The Beiderbecke Affair. And if you don't own a copy, then buy it & it's sequels on DVD. Captain Revere returns in this episode and it appears we saw him briefly in the first episode too. He's not credited but is played by John Beardmore whose previous uncredited appearances include a man in the market in Snakedance Part One and a Thal general in Genesis of the Daleks Part Four.
